Questions & Answers

What is the IB Program?

The IBO consists of three programs:

  • The PYP,or Primary Years Program, for students in grades Kindergarten to 5
  • The MYP, or Middle Year Program, for grades 6 to 10
  • The IB, or International Baccalaureate Program, for grades 11 and 12.

The IB program is a educational framework that does not focus on the memorization of material, but helps students learn from their mistakes and improve their skills through trial and error.

There are thousands of IB Schools throughout the world, in Europe, Asia, Africa and North and South America.

What are the basic concepts of the IB Program?

The IBO program:

  • Is cross curricular. It is based on an integrated program that cuts across the curriculum
  • Does much of its work by means of student projects, or Units of Work
  • Uses international standards
  • Is multi-cultural in its outlook
  • Leaves room for additional subjects.

How will the IBO Program fit in with our other educational programs?

The IBO Program is a higher-level program. It is based on students being able to read and write. So we will maintain all programs that help students in those areas.

In addition the school has many local and State requirements for our students and
how they are assessed. Those will need to be maintained as well.
