ISWA Scholarship
Conditions of the ISWA Diploma Scholarship
The Board and the Directors of The International School of Western Australia have undertaken to provide two scholarship positions in its recently established International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. The following statement outlines that nature of the scholarship provided, as well as the criteria by which applicants will be judged
Nature of the Scholarship
Responsibilities of the School
Successful applicants shall be provided with two years of free tuition at the International school of Western Australia.
Responsibilities of the Parent
The parents of successful candidates will be required to cover costs associated with school camps, textbooks , uniforms and all Diploma course and examination registration costs. Approximately $2000 AUS per academic year.
Criteria
Students who undertake the ISWA Diploma Scholarship do so on the understanding that they will maintain a consistent: academic standard and attendance. Students whose academic commitment, behaviour or attendance is judged to be unacceptable may forfeit their scholarship.
Selection for the scholarship shall be based on a combination of academic aptitude and community engagement. We seek applicants who are able to demonstrate a track record of extra-curricular engagement, combined with evidence of active engagement in their previous academic programs. We assume that all applicants will come to the selection process with a working understanding of the IB Diploma that encompasses what it will require of them , as well as what it stands to offer them.
The scholarship is only available to students who are able to enter Yr 11 in August of that year.
Application
Applicants need to submit the following in order to nominate for these positions:
- School reports for all subjects covering the previous two academic years.
- A sample of exemplary work that the student has completed at some point over the past two academic years.
- WALNA results from the student’s most recent WALNA test.
- Two written references, the first from the student’s Principal, and the second from a mentor or supervisor of one non-curricular activity that the student has participated in within the last two years.
- A written statement that defines their reasons fro wanting to participate in the ISWA program.
The Written Application
In order to judge whether or not you are a suitable candidate for this program, we need to know a little bit about you and what it is that you hope to gain from studying the International Baccalaureate. Additionally, we need some sense of what you know about the IB Diploma program and what you think you will be able to bring to our school.
To demonstrate this, we require that you submit a statement of between 600 and 1000 words, that responds to the following statement.
“The Learner Profile defines the qualities that both we and the IB feel are typical of accomplished learners. Nominate three of these qualities that you feel you have strength in and describe instances where you these qualities have enriched your education, within and outside of the classroom.”
Selection
Written applications for both scholarship positions need to be received no later than Friday the 7th of June.
Short-listed candidates will then be invited for interviews, in which they can then build upon the points stated in their written application.
Successful applicants will be notified by the school, within a week of the interview.
