Our "go-to" experts in all things to do with the International Baccalaureate curriculum, our Advanced Placement program for USA universities, and international college counselling.

Mr Chris Stickman
International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator

I am originally from Perth but have spent time teaching interstate in Canberra as well as a fantastic 4 year overseas period in Hong Kong. I am entering my fifth year at ISWA and have had the joint role of PYP Coordinator/Classroom Teacher for the last three years. I have a double degree in Psychology and English from Murdoch University as well as a Graduate Diploma in Primary Education from Edith Cowan University. I first encountered the IB PYP when teaching in Hong Kong and have nearing 10 years’ experience with the programme. Discovering this program was an inspiring moment that gave me the tools to match the passion and dedication I already had for education. I have a young family, enjoy playing guitar and am an enthusiastic cricketer and AFL footballer. I am really excited by the next phase here at ISWA and in continuing to deliver a truly international education.

Laura Nicholson

Laura Nicholson was originally from England and comes from a strong background in curriculum management and administration. Having recently worked in two middle management roles and with staff from all levels, she has developed a supportive and highly collaborative teaching and leadership style that values change, diversity and develops resilience.

As well as being a highly effective teacher in Humanities and Social Sciences with outstanding Senior Secondary results, her previous roles involved overseeing curriculum development, Staff Professional Development and monitoring of students’ academic progress in Years 7-12. This included developing, implementing and leading the Australian Curriculum (AC) action plan in the Middle School to drive pedagogical change. Laura has enormous experience and shown initiative as an ICT integration teacher and leader. She was also responsible for counselling students on appropriate selection of Year 11 and 12 courses, including careers counselling and planning future tertiary pathways. One of her many achievements includes establishing an International sister school network which was the focus of a three week student tour to Hong Kong and China.

Michele Maher

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP)

I have joined ISWA as both the IBDP coordinator and Head of Art. I have taught under an umbrella of curriculums, throughout my career in education and held a number of academic and pastoral roles, including, being curriculum coordinator, head of year, and a SACE board moderator and examiner for art and design. Currently I am an IBO DP examiner for Art and the Extended Essay, and teach both the MYP and DP visual arts and design subjects, as well as Theory of Knowledge and act as a mentor for the Extended Essay and Personal Project. I am enthusiastic and passionate about education and the arts, and believe that an exemplary teacher should be flexible and encourage students to think critically for a deeper learning experience, enabling them to transfer these skills to University level and beyond. I hold degrees from both Sydney University and Charles Sturt University in addition to a Masters from the University of NSW.

I am a founding teacher of ISWA. I teach Spanish in the secondary school and act as an Academic Coordinator. I love teaching about my culture and my language and take great pride when students become passionate about learning Spanish. I have taught Spanish and ESL in schools in the United States and Puerto Rico. I believe in success for every student and feel proud to be part of our international community where diversity is valued and learning is fun.

In my spare time I love to read, cook and spend quality time with my two Pugs.
