There are many reasons why international students find The International School of Western Australia is the perfect educational environment for them.

ISWA is approved to accept students from around the globe, including those holding resident visas or CRICOS international students. Each year we welcome children aged from 4 to 17 years old, from countries all over the world.

These are just some of the aspects that bring international students to our school:

Our Welcoming Community

At the International School of Western Australia, we are proud of our welcoming community of internationally-minded, open-minded, and culturally-minded families from both Perth and across the globe. Our Parent Association is particularly good at running a busy schedule of family events that helps our new families settle in quickly and happily.

Our Northern Hemisphere Academic Calendar

The International School of Western Australia is the only school in Western Australia to follow the Northern Hemisphere academic timetable with the academic year commencing in late July and concluding in early June.

Our Internationally-Minded Syllabus

In keeping with the school’s goal to provide education of an international standard and recognition, the school has adopted multiple programmes and courses from around the world:

  • The International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) is run from Kindergarten to Year 6 levels
  • The (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) is run from Years 7 to Year 10 levels
  •  The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is run from  Year 11 and 12 levels
  • The U.S. College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Program operates at the Year 11 and 12 levels
  • The U.S. Mathematics Programs (Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II) is offered as an additional course to all students in Year 7 – 10 for High School credit
  • ISWA also offers students in Year 10 a fast-tracked Science course for High School credit

Our Choice of Academic Pathways to International Universities

ISWA offers two Academic Pathways for our Senior School students: the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP), and the U.S. College Board’s Advanced Placement Programme (AP).

Both the DP and the AP are internationally recognised paths of study that can help students enrol into universities all over the world. Universities across the globe welcome students from both pathways, as evidence shows that students in both programs are more likely to outperform their peers at university or college, and graduate in fewer years.

Both are a valid and progressive alternative to the WACE programme, and are recognised for entrance into Western Australian universities.

Bonus points or higher weighting grades may be awarded to both the IB Diploma Programme or the Advanced Placement results. This can significantly increase eligibility for university scholarships. Both the DB and the AP are academically challenging.

Course Credit

Course credit already achieved at a previous school will be accepted on receipt of official documentation from the issuing school. Please refer to the ISWA Course Handbook, available on request from the Registrar, for further information.

English Language Proficiency

Students entering Years 9-12 must demonstrate a proficiency in English. Students whose first language is not English may be required to undertake formal and external testing prior to being considered for admission. This may incur extra fees.

Students entering Year 1-8 whose first language is not English may be required to attend English as an Additional Language (EAL) lessons at ISWA. These lessons will be provided each week until a level of proficiency is reached that is equivalent to the required year group level.

EAL students receive 3.4 hours of instruction per week within small groups at an extra cost to the Parents/Guardians. ISWA does not offer Intensive English Language Courses.
