Our secondary school students further develop our school’s values of International-Mindedness, Open-Mindedness, and Cultural-Mindedness.

Secondary School at The International School of Western Australia is a time of growth for our students. In our close-knit, welcoming school environment they develop academic and personal skills, and a deep sense of social awareness and justice.

As they become academically, socially, and personally more empowered, our students are encouraged to take on school leadership roles. They are supported by a robust student well-being programme

As a boutique school, our secondary students have the unique benefit of having additional attention from our outstanding teaching staff. Our teachers know every single one of our secondary students. They are thus able to help them reach their full potential by devising teaching and learning opportunities that best suit the students and their learning styles.

With such close attention from faculty, students are supported and nurtured, and do not ‘fall through the gaps’ as we nurture them on their way to becoming globally-aware citizens who will strive and contribute towards a better future for all.

Programmes of Study

Middle School students (Years 7-10) study the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme* (MYP) and the Australian Curriculum.

Senior School Students (Years 11 and 12) have the option of studying either the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP), or the U.S. College Board’s Advanced Placement. Both academic pathways are ideally suited for students hoping to gain acceptance into universities and colleges both here in Western Australia, and around the globe.

The International School of Western Australia has a non-restrictive entry policy for all courses, although some individual subjects (e.g. languages) may have prerequisites.

Careers & College Counselling

Secondary School students at The International School of Western Australia also have access to our Careers and College Counsellor, Ms Laura Nicholson. Ms Nicholson is also available to assist with international university applications for our students.

International-Mindedness

Seeing and experiencing the world broadly with perspective.

Our international curriculum, holistic education, and excellent academic results prepare our students for further studies around the world and position The International School of Western Australia as a well-recognised and sought-after international school. Equipped with competencies of citizenship and character, they travel the world in search of new and authentic learning through which they will grow and contribute within their different communities in a principled and caring fashion throughout their lives.

Open-Mindedness

Stepping into the future and embracing opportunities with courage.

Our growing, energetic, and enthusiastic international community of students, teachers, and parents all work together to provide a balanced learning environment that nurtures inclusivity, inquiry, and responsible risk-taking. Empowered by competencies of change readiness and critical and creative thinking, they look forward, recognise and reflect on what is known and what might be possible and pursue new pathways and challenges.

Cultural-Mindedness

Inviting and acknowledging people on our journey with appreciation.

Our warmth of welcome allows students and parents to quickly develop a strong sense of belonging to our school community where cultural diversity is celebrated. Enabled by competencies of communication and collaboration, they speak more than one language, adapt to their circumstances, and work together with respect for themselves and the customs and beliefs of those around them.
