We recognise that learning another language is an important part of developing a deeper understanding of the world. Languages are one of the core elements of our international community and it is compulsory at our school from Kindergarten to Year 10.
Immersion-Style Language Classes
Learning another language requires regular practise, immersion, and the ability to use the language in a genuine context. In most year levels, we schedule the same amount of time for language learning as the other core subjects (up to 2 hours/week in Primary and 4 hours/week Secondary), and we offer immersion-style classes to ensure students will succeed. Best of all, the breadth of nationalities at our school means that children always have a native speaker to practise their new language skills with.
In-class Language Learning Programme
We currently offer French and Spanish language classes in our academic curriculum. In the 2018/19 academic year, the school will be delivering the majority of classes in the Primary School and all of the classes in the Secondary school in phases. This will allow non-proficient and proficient students to be grouped accordingly to ensure that they are receiving the best language tuition available.
Co-curricular Language Learning Options
In addition to our in-class language learning programme, we also offer a range of co-curricular language learning options, both for our student and parent community, as well as the wider Perth community.
We offer co-curricular language lessons after school hours and on weekends, in conjunction with highly respected third-party tuition providers. Courses are for both children and adults and open to the community. A range of levels are offered, from beginners to advanced.
Our current co-curricular language classes offering includes:
- Dutch, offered by LanguageOne Dutch School
- French, offered by Alliance Française
- Italian, offered by Dante Alighieri Society
- Spanish, offered by Instituto Cervantes
Mandarin, offered by ISWA
