The International School of Western Australia (ISWA) will relocate to a new home on the current Doubleview Primary School site in the second half of 2019.
The decision to relocate to the current Doubleview Primary School site, which is situated on St Brigid’s Terrace in Doubleview, provides ISWA with secure operating facilities for 28 years from 1 June 2019.
ISWA has a seven-year option to extend its lease to 2054 or, by mutual agreement with the Department of Education, can take up a 14-year-option to take its lease on the Doubleview site to 2061.
Under the new lease, the Department of Education has committed to upgrade and refurbish the existing Doubleview school classrooms, as well as build several new facilities and relocate some current buildings from ISWA’s City Beach site. ISWA will share the oval, hard court facilities and gymnasium with students from the new Doubleview Primary school which will be built on open public space bordering Grand Promenade, Ewen Street and Flamborough Street.
ISWA Principal, Maria Coate, today described the outcome as a “win-win” for ISWA and the State Government.
“We are all very pleased with this negotiated outcome,” Mrs Coate said.
“It secures ISWA’s home until 2047, and possibly up to 2061, and also provides a stable environment for us to strategically plan for future school investment in terms of student numbers and educational programs”.
“In addition, the State Government’s commitment to build several new facilities and upgrade the existing classrooms will ensure that we continue to deliver the highest standard of facilities for our students, teaching and administration staff”.
“This outcome also allows the State Government to fast-track its planning for a new senior high school to be built in the western suburbs on the City Beach site, which we are vacating”.
“We will now work closely with the Education Department in order for our students and staff to relocate seamlessly to our new home in the second half of 2019.”
Mrs Coate said” ISWA offers a ‘very high performing’ Kindergarten to Year 12 school program based on recent WA and Australian NAPLAN results”.
“ISWA offers a truly global education for our students through our acclaimed International Baccalaureate World School programs for primary and middle years as well as the Diploma program. ISWA also offers the US based Advanced Placement Program”.
“We are committed to providing an inspiring and challenging education for every student within a caring and supportive community environment.”
