Welcome

A warm welcome to the International School of Western Australia website.  We are a growing, energetic and enthusiastic community of students, teachers and parents working together to deliver a quality learning environment.  I am employing my previous, recent experience as a school principal to fulfill the role of Interim Principal at the school until June 2010 when the newly selected Principal, Ms Melissa Powell, will assume the position on an ongoing basis.

As you browse through the pages of our website, you will see that we are a school that offers a diverse and exciting learning program for our students and a challenging and fulfilling working environment for our staff.  We are lucky to be part of such a caring, diverse and stimulating community.

The school is already accredited to teach the prestigious International Baccaureate (Diploma Program) which is a major milestone and something very much to be celebrated.  We are part of a growing network of IB Diploma Schools in Western Australia.  The International School of Western Australia is a candidate school for the Primary Years Program (PYP).  These are schools that share a common philosophy - a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that the International School of Western Australia believes is important for our students.  The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) of the United States of America and offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses to our more capable students.

We were fortunate to receive significant funding from the Australian Government through its "National School Pride" and "Primary Schools for the 21st Century" Programs.  This support is being directed towards the provision of a new library, facilities for Drama and Music and a classroom to accommodate our proposed 5 year old program.  Construction has commenced and the project is due for completion in June 2010 in preparation for the new academic year.

The famous proverb says that it ‘takes a village’ to raise a child. In the case of our school, it is a village of global citizens who have come from far and wide.  But we are no less the village for our global outlook.  In fact I think it helps us be all that a village can be – by working in collaboration we have accomplished so much more than we could have alone.  These past few years in particular have been a tremendous learning experience for us all.  And the journey continues for as each of our students flourish, so does our school and so do our families.  If you are new to the International School of Western Australia I encourage you to explore our website and get to know us a little.  But nothing beats real life so please come and have a closer look at who we are and what we do.  I personally look forward to meeting you and exploring all that we have to offer together.
