Middle Years (7-10) MYP
Middle School is a time of remarkable growth: academically, personally, and socially. Within our welcoming community, students at ISWA develop essential skills, confidence and a strong sense of social responsibility.
As an International Baccalaureate World School, students in Years 7-10 follow the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).
This framework emphasises intellectual challenge and encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world, ultimately preparing them for success in both further study and life. (IBO, 2023)
Curriculum
The MYP at ISWA delivers the Western Australian Curriculum through an inquiry-based approach, structured around eight subject groups:
- Language and Literature
- Language Acquisition
- Individuals and Societies
- Sciences
- Mathematics
- The Arts
- Design
- Physical and Health Education
Students also participate in interdisciplinary units, fostering collaboration and deeper conceptual understanding across subjects. In their final year, learners complete the Personal Project, an independent inquiry that showcases creativity, research and self-management.
Community Engagement
Service and action are fundamental to the MYP. Students connect their learning to real-world issues, engaging respectfully with local and global communities through principled action and critical reflection.
