Primary Years (3-6) PYP

Teaching & learning in our Primary School is guided by the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). The PYP is a rigorous, concept-driven and inquiry-based framework that brings learning together across subject areas, enabling students to make meaningful connections and apply their understanding in authentic contexts.

The IB PYP provides the framework through which the Australian Curriculum is taught and assessed. As a globally recognised programme for primary education, the PYP supports high academic expectations while developing internationally minded learners who are thoughtful, reflective and prepared to engage with an interconnected world.

Through carefully designed units of inquiry and skilled teaching, students develop:

  • Deep conceptual understanding
  • Strong transferable skills, including communication, thinking, research and self-management
  • Independence, resilience and a growth mindset
  • The ability to apply learning across disciplines and real-world contexts

Our students build a wide range of transferable skills, develop deep conceptual understandings, and engage with essential knowledge within each learning area. This rigorous and connected approach helps students make meaningful links across:

  • Languages (English and Languages other than English)
  • Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • The Arts
  • Science
  • Personal, Social & Physical Education

By exploring local, national and global contexts, students develop a strong sense of identity and belonging, an appreciation of diverse perspectives, and an understanding of their responsibility to contribute positively to their community and the wider world. This balanced and purposeful approach ensures our students are challenged, supported and empowered as confident, capable and curious learners.
